What’s with the narwhal?

Reverend Dr. Justin R. Moen, Ph.D., has been with us for many years. He was once a wild beast off the coast of Nova Scotia until one day he met his match: Noah “The Brave” Kilsdonk. The battle was fierce and lasted for many moons, but alas, Noah The Brave emerged victorious from the cold ocean waters, dragging the great beast to shore with his bared teeth.

Upon realizing the devastation that Noah had inflicted upon the sea unicorn, he fell to his knees and began to mend and heal the great animal. They became close friends and embarked upon a bike trip together (luckily, Noah had a sidecar just the right size for his new narwhal friend).

Noah named the narwhal Justin R. Moen and they became best friends forever. Justin, the narwhal, moved away from the coast to the mid-west to study land mammals. He completed his Ph.D. in animal sciences before realizing that his true calling was to be a reverend. He did just that and lived out the last of his days preaching the good word of the Force until finding his final resting place here at No Coast. On our wall.

How much does it cost?

The cost of your tattoo depends on factors such as placement, size, style, and the artist working on your tattoo. Our hourly rates range from $120/hour to $150/hour, with a $100 shop minimum. For tattoos done by our apprentice, the minimum is $80. To give us a better understanding of your design, please complete the tattoo inquiry form.

How do I set up an appointment?

You can call the shop to check availability—same-day
appointments may be possible for simpler designs. However, it’s
recommended to complete the tattoo inquiry form first. Once your
submission is received, either the front desk or the artist will
contact you to arrange a consultation or appointment.

If you’re communicating directly with an artist, they will work with
you to finalize the details and provide the time required for your
session. You’ll then need to contact the shop to schedule your
appointment. Keep in mind that a deposit is necessary to secure
all bookings.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?

Please check out our deposit and cancellation policy for more information if you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Bring a valid state or federal-issued ID, such as a driver’s license, state ID, or passport. Copies or photos of IDs will NOT be accepted. Without proper identification, we cannot proceed with your tattoo, and your deposit will be forfeited.

Don’t forget to bring your preferred method of payment as well! Feel free to bring a cellphone, headphones, e-reader, or similar device to keep yourself entertained, as long as it doesn’t cause unnecessary movement during the session. For full-day appointments, we also recommend bringing a little snacky and water.

What should I do before I arrive?

To prepare for your appointment, we recommend:

  • Getting a good night’s sleep.
  • Staying hydrated and having a light snack or meal
beforehand (especially if you’re coming in for an all-day
    session).
  • Wearing comfortable clothing that provides easy access to
    the area being tattooed.

It’s also a great idea to hydrate your skin in the days leading up to
your appointment to improve elasticity.

Your health is important! Make sure you’re feeling well before
getting tattooed. If you have any concerns about medical
conditions or medications, reach out to your artist and your
physician—not Dr. Google.

Does it hurt?

No. Yes. Ok, a little. Pain is different for everyone, and it depends on the size, placement, and style of the tattoo being performed. Does it hurt? Yes. Can you get through it? Absolutely.

Will it fade?

Yes, tattoos naturally fade overtime. Part of their beauty is how they become an integrated part of you as you age. To slow the aging process of your tattoo, follow the same steps you’d take to protect your skin: keep it moisturized, use sunscreen daily, minimize sun exposure, especially during peak hours (10am–4pm).

Will tattoos make me cooler?

If the force is with you, you will become very cool.

Do I tip?

You are not required to tip on top of the cost of your tattoo, but it is always appreciated! If you would like to tip us, you may do so using a card or cash. Some clients even bring us homemade goodies/gifts! We love and appreciate all of it.

Can you fix or cover up my old tattoo?

Probably! Email us a picture and we can talk about your options.
